10 MUST DO Cheap Marketing TIPS for Canadian Salon Owners.

 By:  Dee Enola Thomas

This article is written primarily for Canadian Beauty Professionals but these tricks are relevant to all business types and for all countries. On a whole Canadians are very understated in our demeanour and will not seek attention, this attitude might work well in some social settings but as business owners, Canadians need to engage in all the attention-getting activities they can get. Today we are presenting some marketing tips that will force the Canadian salons owners to toot their horns a bit.

  • TIP 1. New Customer Offers /Loss Leaders
Trying to attract new customers to your salon or spa is one the most difficult marketing tasks you will ever face in your business. We suggest that you offer something for free. It must be really free and has a monetary value – no one is going to fall for the McDonald’s “smiles are free” advertising.

The key here is to attract the NEW clients to your salon or spa. All large companies do this, check out the latest Future Shop flyers, they will usually offer something for free or at a ridiculously low price to get you into the store. It works remarkably well. You can do this too. Offer new clients 2 for 1 special – bring your sister or friend and both get half off any service for the first visit.

Suggestion: Send flyers to household in new subdivisions near your business many of these residents will likely be looking for a new salon in their new neighbourhood.  Get these new potential clients into your salon by offering them somethng of value – even if you have to take a minor loss or a lower profit – the repeat visits will pay off handsomely.  Once you get these new clients it is now up to you to get them coming back. Your customer service must be top notch – salon clients are a picky bunch – they will travel more than an hour to a salon that they consider to be the best.

I recalled a friend who travelled from Scarborough to Brampton for quite a while to get her hair done by this particular stylist who had moved there.  This demonstrates that if your service is not up to par clients will go the distance to find what they consider to be the best. The rule of thumb “wow your clients – make them feel special” you will reap the benefits.
